Comparing De Novo Genome Assembly |

An italian researcher, Giuseppe Narzisi, working at the New York University, is the lead author of a paper published in the PlOS One Journal. The paper highlights common anomalies in assembly accuracy through a rigorous study of several assemblers, compared under both standard metrics (N50, coverage, contig sizes, etc.) as well as a more comprehensive metric (Feature-Response Curves, FRC). Portable Sensors Allow Users to Monitor Exposure to Pollution |

Computer scientists at the University of California, San Diego have built a small fleet of portable pollution sensors that allow users to monitor air quality in real time on their smart phones. The sensors could be particularly useful to people suffering from chronic conditions, such as asthma, who need to avoid exposure to pollutants.An italian researcher, Piero Zappi, took part to the research. On the 7th of March an italian engineer Emanuela Barzi, working at Fermilab, was awarded the Dottorato di Ricerca Honoris Causa in Ingegneria dell’Innovazione e dello Sviluppo dei Prodotti e dei Processi Industriali. The cerimony was held at the Università degli Studi Guglielmo Marconi, Rome, Italy.
