Seattle Chapter Launch Event

The inaugural meeting of the Seattle Chapter was held at the Harborview Medical Centre in Seattle on the 15th of March under the auspices of the Italian Consulate General in San Francisco and the Radiology Department, University of Washington.

Translational research has been the main focus of the ISSNAF-Seattle Chapter inaugural meeting, titled "From Research to Commercialization". In presence of the ISSNAF president Dr. Vito Campese and the Italian Honorary Consul in Seattle, Mr. Franco Tesorieri, five selected speakers have provided forty attendees with practical examples and advice on how to transform ideas into business opportunities.

Dennis A. Hanson from the University of Washington Center for Commercialization (C4C) has effectively explained how academic institutions are now stepping forward in helping university employees transformideas into products and launch their own start-up company.

 

 

In parallel, Andrea Riposati from Amazon.comInc. shared valuable advice on the same topic for those that wish to develop their ideas outside of academic institutions. 
Albert Sbragia, chair of the Department of Italian and French Studies at the University of Washington offered his prospective on commercialization in the field of Humanities, that holds many but often unrecognized opportunities to convert culture into a marketable product.
In the end, Emilio Fonzo, senior electrical engineer at MicroPlanetInc., and Dr. Stephen McCraith, founder ofRJS Biologics, LLC shared their experience of professionals whose ideas are close to become commercial products.
