ISSNAF Seattle Chapter Summer Meeting

Harborview Medical Center The 2014 ISSNAF-Seattle Chapter (near) Summer meeting will take place on Wednesday, June 4th in the Bellevue Arts Museum (BAM, 510 Bellevue Way NE, Bellevue, WA 98004) from 5.30pm to 8.00 pm.

We are pleased to host four outstanding speakers: Mark Nassutti, novelist, will talk about how his Italian roots made possible to write a novel set in Trieste; Pino Cherchi, renowned glass artist will talk about changing glass into art; Beatrice Arduini, Assistant Professor in the Dept. of French and Italian Studies at the University of Washington will talk about Dante Alighieri; and Iole Alessandrini, architect and light sculptress will talk about the architecture of light. A free guided visit to “The Infinite Possibilities of Origami” will be offered to the participants thanks to the generosity of the BAM and ISSNAF.

Seattle Chapter Spring Meeting 2014

Harborview Medical CenterThe 2014 Spring meeting will take place on Thursday, April 10th in the Auditorium of the Research and Training Building (300 9th Ave, 98104, Seattle) at Harborview Medical Center.

We are pleased to host four outstanding speakers: Erica Tartaglione, Research Specialist at the VA Puget Sound Hospital will talk about the next frontier in patient-directed health care; Giuseppe Tassone, Lecturer in the Department of French and Italian Studies at the University of Washington will talk about the role of new technologies in language learning; Irene Rembado, Fellow in the Department of Engineering at the University of Washington will talk about the latest innovations in man-machine interface; and Fabio Parmeggiani, Senior Fellow in the Biochemistry department at the University of Washington will introduce us to the art of protein masonry.

Seattle Chapter Fall Meeting 2013: another great success

Fall Meeting: another great successThe ISSNAF-Seattle Chapter fall meeting was just another great success. Almost 100 people gathered to listen to our four amazing speakers and to visit the BAM.

After the visit we enjoyed talks form Claudio Mazzola, PhD and Senior Lecturer at the Department of French and Italian Studies at the University of Washington that talked about the health of Italian cinema.

Seattle Chapter Fall Meeting 2013

ISSNAF Seattle Chapter is pleased to announce the 2013 Fall Meeting, that will take place at the Bellevue Arts Museum (510 Bellevue Way NE Bellevue, WA 98004) on Wednesday, Dec. 11th 2013. After the visit we will enjoy talks form four outstanding speakers: Claudio Mazzola, PhD and Senior Lecturer at the Department of French and Italian Studies at the University of Washington will talk about the health of
Italian cinema. Luca Cazzanti, PhD and Principal Scientist at Globys Inc. will talk about shaping consumer behavior with big data. Maureen Hoffmann, Designer and Photographer will delight the audience with her talk on language and visual exploration in Italy, and Roberto Nicosia, MD, PhD will guide us through the fascinating history of angiogenesis research. A few tables were booked at the restaurant Palomino for a social dinner after the event. This time however, we did not agree on a particular menu or price. Anyone will be free to order from the menu according to their preferences and everyone will receive an individual check for their food. If you wish to join us for dinner, please contact lorenzogiacani@gmail.com Free parking is available at the BAM (only until 8.30pm) or at the Bellevue Square Mall across the street from the museum (recommended parking solution).

Seattle Chapter Summer 2013 Meeting on August 29th

ISSNAF Seattle Chapter is pleased to announce the 2013 Summer Meeting, that will take place in the Harborview Medical Center (HMC) Auditorium (300 9th Ave, 98104, Seattle) on Thursday August 29th 2013. The first speaker, the celebrated Italian writer Sergio Campailla will introduce his latest book "Divorati dal Dragone" (Bompiani), a thriller that takes place between Florence and Rome in the heart of the Renaissance. The second speaker, Dr. Marta Scatena, Associate Professor in the Department of Bioengineering at the University of Washington, will talk about her research aimed at understanding the mechanisms underlying the pathological processes of cardiovascular diseases. Claudio Vacalebre, CTO at Alanta, will talk about WebRTC, an open source project aiming to enable the web with Real Time Communication (RTC) capabilities. Last but not least, renowned artist Maria Grazia Repetto, master of fine arts, will talk about her work as a in fresco painter.

The details for the social event after the meeting are still in the working process, however it will likely take place at Il Fornaio in downtown Seattle.

Seattle Chapter Spring 2013 Meeting: A Great Success

The ISSNAF Seattle Chapter Meeting which took place on Thursday May 9th at the Belleuve Arts Museum (BAM) of Belleuve (WA), has been a great success with almost 100 presences during the general meeting and 50 during the official dinner, as confirmed by Chapter member Lorenzo Mannelli. During the event, has also been elected a new president of the ISSNAF Seattle Chapter: Lorenzo Giacani.

The new Chapter Chair, just wrote a brief summary about it with many thanks to everyone who participated.

Seattle Chapter Spring 2013 Meeting on May 9th

The spring 2013 ISSNAF -Seattle Chapter meeting will take place on Thursday, May 9th at the Bellevue Arts Museum (BAM), in Bellevue (WA). The year 2013 is the year of Italian culture in the US, and ISSNAF and BAM joined forces to offer an unprecedented occasion for all Italians, Italian-Americans, and lovers of the Italian culture currently living in the Seattle area.
