ISSNAF AWARD FOR THE HUMANITIES


The ISSNAF Award for the Humanities is presented to the worthiest unpublished manuscript of a volume in English dealing with topics in the context of Italian culture within the areas of Social History (History & Political Sciences), Intellectual History (Literature, Philosophy, Religion & Cultural Studies), Art (Art History, Visual art & Performing arts). The Award acknowledges the research of young Italian scholars in North America whose commitment to their discipline of study is innovative and honors their country of origin.

The winner receives the Medal of Representation of the Italian President of the Republic and a monetary prize of $ 1,500. The winning manuscript is considered for publication with the Toronto University Press

The 2014 ISSNAF Award for the Humanities acknowledged the best unpublished manuscript of a volume in English dealing with aspects of the relationship between the Arts and Science and/or Technology in the context of Italian culture.

The best ranking finalists presented their manuscripts during the symposium on “The Italian Tradition of Knowledge" hosted by the Center for Italian Studies at the University of Pennsylvania on October 18, 2014.

The Jury selected the winner at the end of the symposium. In 2014 the Award received a contribution of LaFondazioneNY

Luca Cottini (Villanova University) received the 2014 ISSNAF Award for the Humanities  for the work entitled "The Art of Objects. Designing Italy’s Way to Modernity (1878-1928)".

Luca Cottini had the honor of receiving the "Medaglia di Rappresentanza del Presidente della Repubblica Italiana".
