  1. Early-career ISSNAF members.

  2. Italian students and recent graduates in all disciplines who are interested in pursuing study or work opportunities in North America.

Programs for Early-Career Members


Programs for Students

  • The Young ISSNAF Mentoring Program for Students offers career guidance to students enrolled in graduate or undergraduate programs in Italy and North America as well as to recent graduates. Mentees must be interested in opportunities in North America, such as to further their studies, to obtain an internship in an academic or research institution, or to pursue a career in academia or research. 

  • The Young ISSNAF Internships give outstanding graduate students in Italy the opportunity to spend a training period at a North-American organization.

Mentoring Program 

The Young ISSNAF Mentoring Program specifically addresses the different needs of:

  1. Early-career ISSNAF members.

  2. Italian students and recent graduates interested in pursuing study or work opportunities in North America. 

This program is unique in its ability to match mentors and mentees with a common cultural identity and professional background and provide a rewarding experience for both.

Become a Young ISSNAF Mentor 

If you have an established career in North America, you can help to make this program successful by signing up to be a Young ISSNAF Mentor. This is a worthwhile opportunity for you to give back and have a significant impact on the career of a talented Italian. You might even gain helpful contacts for your own career, group, or research program!

Mentoring Program for Early-Career ISSNAF Members

This program focuses on career development and supports ISSNAF members in the early-career stage in North America to achieve their professional goals. Mentees are matched with experienced mentors (mid-career or higher) in the ISSNAF community with the same cultural and professional background.  

 

Mentees are mentored for a period of one year with at least bi-monthly interactions with their mentor, or as agreed upon with their mentor. 

 

Requirements 

To be considered, the applicant is required to:   

  • Be ISSNAF Member. 

  • Pursue a career in North America. 

  • Have earned their highest degree or completed clinical residency after January 1, 2011. 

  

2021 Timeline 

  • The Call for Applications for Mentees will close on October 15, 2020 

  • Mentoring will start on January 1, 2021

Mentoring Program for Students

This program offers career guidance to students enrolled in graduate or undergraduate programs at academic institutions in Italy and North America as well as to recent graduates. Mentees must be interested in study or work opportunities in North America, such as to further their studies, obtain an internship, or pursue a career at an academic or research institution. Mentors are ISSNAF members who work in academia and research institutions in North America. 

 
Mentees are mentored for a period of one year with at least bi-monthly interactions with their mentor, or as agreed upon with their mentor. 

 

Requirements 

To be considered, the applicant is required to:  

  • Hold an Italian passport. 

  • Be a graduate or undergraduate student, or have graduated at an institution in Italy or North America after January 1, 2020.

  • The Call for Applications for Mentees will close on October 15, 2020 

  • Mentoring will start on January 1, 2021

Fellowships

ISSNAF supports the professional growth of outstanding early career researchers in Italy. 

 

ISSNAF coordinates with Italian and North American institutions to set up and manage research fellowships.  Selected researchers will spend one or more years at a research institution in North America.  These experiences benefit both visiting researchers and hosting institutions, professionally and culturally.

These fellowships are named after their generous sponsors.

  • Premio Fulvio Bracco: two-year Fellowship at a Bracco Research Center in USA

  • Fondazione Marche: ten two-year Postdoctoral Fellowship in Molecular Biology at major North American universities
