The Italian Scientists and Scholars in North America Foundation (ISSNAF) is a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit corporation, incorporated in California, USA, with the mission of connecting, empowering and celebrating the Italian academics, scientists and technologists in North America, as well as fostering the scientific and technological collaboration between NA and Italy (www.issnaf.org).
ISSNAF supports the internationalization activities of Italian universities and partners with them to provide mobility opportunities to Italian students to be hosted at NA institutions, and to help establish or sustain collaborations between Italian and NA research institutions.
ISSNAF views this program as key to realize its mission and intends to significantly scale it up, with the support of the Italian Ministry of University and Research. Our groundbreaking new Internationalization Support Program (“Program”) involves developing the infrastructure, as well as building long-lasting partnerships with universities and research centers, hosts, and financial sponsors. The vision for the Program is quite broad and expected to be fully realized over a few years.
ISSNAF seeks a talented and committed Program Manager to be at the forefront of managing existing internationalization activities and steering the groundbreaking Program towards a successful implementation.
Position: Program Manager, under the guidance of the ISSNAF President and Chair of the Board.
Type of engagement: Consulting Agreement (terms to be agreed upon). This role is expected to require a minimum average of 20 hours weekly for one year. Flexible hours.
Location: Italy (limited travel within Italy is expected). Smart working.
Main Responsibilities: You will work closely with the ISSNAF leadership and various stakeholders to:
Manage the current internationalization activities and support the current university partners and hosts;
Coordinate the development of the various Program components (from requirements gathering and engineering implementation, to data acquisition, to deployment, to reporting to government sponsors);
Liaise with collaborators in executing the Program;
Interface and foster a productive collaboration with the program stakeholders (such as participating Italian universities, hosts in NA, funding institutions);
Review relevant documents and reports such as on funding and expenditures, for accuracy and compliance; identify and track follow-up actions;
Manage records and communication documents, such as information materials for the ISSNAF website and social media, and for other community building activities;
Perform other related duties as needed.
Laurea Magistrale or Master’s degree;
5+ years of relevant work experience with a track record of successfully planning and delivering complex projects;
Demonstrated problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills;
Strong leadership qualities with the ability to inspire action and motivate others;
Strong project management skills with the ability to oversee multiple tasks simultaneously and manage competing priorities;
Proficiency in using relevant software and tools, including project management software, Microsoft Office 365 and G-suite platforms;
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Italian;
Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders;
Cultural sensitivity and the ability to effectively communicate and work in culturally diverse environments;
Ability to adapt quickly, thrive in a small team environment, and have the flexibility to handle unexpected challenges and opportunities;
Adherence to ethical standards and a commitment to maintaining the highest level of integrity.
Proven experience in leading programs in the nonprofit sector (e.g., government labs, universities, foundations);
Knowledge of the nonprofit sector, including compliance with US regulations for non-profits;
Working knowledge of the academic environment.
