The renewed Pacific Northwest (PNW) ISSNAF Chapter brings together a growing community of Italian scholars, researchers, entrepreneurs, professionals, and students across Washington and Oregon. Based in one of the world’s leading hubs for technology, life sciences, humanities, medicine, and entrepreneurship, the region offers a dynamic environment for collaboration and intellectual exchange. With institutions such as the University of Washington, University of Oregon, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, and a vibrant startup ecosystem, the PNW stands at the crossroads of innovation, discovery, and societal impact.
Through networking, knowledge sharing, and interdisciplinary initiatives, the Chapter supports professional growth and highlights the contributions of Italian talent across generations.

DANIELE PIAZZA
Humanoid Robotics Scientist at Meta, is a builder at the intersection of physical computing and consumer tech. He has held technical leadership roles ranging from Tech Lead to Executive across both large technology companies and startups, and he also co-founded two tech startups. Daniele holds more than 20 patents spanning robotics, actuation, sensors, and wearables. He earned a Master in Physics from the Universita degli studi di Bologna and a PhD from Universita degli studi di Firenze, specializing in materials for advanced transducer systems.

SILVERIO CALLIPO
Silverio Callipo is a Senior Software Engineer at Microsoft with global experience across Italy, Switzerland, Ireland, and the U.S. in enterprise technology, SAP Finance & Controlling, digital transformation, AI innovation, and project management. Having worked for organizations including Microsoft and KPMG, Jimmy Choo and Imerys he brings a strong international perspective. He also holds a Master’s in Sport and Event Management, reflecting his passion for leadership and community building.

GIORGIO NATILI
Giorgio Natili is a technologist, ethicist, inventor, author, and community member defining what sovereign and ethical AI should look like. As Senior Director of AI Engineering at Oracle Cloud Support, he builds enterprise AI that is smarter, faster, and more trustworthy. As former VP at OPAQUE Systems, he pioneered confidential AI—unlocking insights from sensitive data without exposing it. Across Amazon, Mozilla, and Capital One, he champions powerful AI inseparable from human dignity.

DANIELA GIORDANO
Daniela Giordano is an immunologist with more than two decades’ research experience at the Department of Immunology University of Washington and UW School of Medicine in Seattle. As Senior Scientist and Assistant Professor, she led and contributed to NIH-funded research programs and interdisciplinary collaborations in immunology, infectious disease, autoimmunity, and vaccine biology. She currently focuses on scientific writing and cross-disciplinary communication in life sciences and medicine. She holds a PhD in Cell and Developmental Biology (Neurobiology) from “La Sapienza” University in Rome, Italy.

MICHELE CURATOLO
Michele Curatolo is Professor of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at the University of Washington, where he also serves as Endowed Professor in Medical Education and Research. Dr. Curatolo has an extensive clinical and research background in pain management. He previously served as Chief of the Pain Clinic at the University of Bern, Switzerland. Dr. Curatolo has earned numerous awards, including an honorary doctorate from the University of Aalborg in Denmark and honorary membership in the Swiss Anesthesia Society. His research has been largely supported by federal grants.
