To Dr. Franco Einaudi: a beloved mathematician and physicist
Franco Einaudi, born in Turin on October 31, 1937, was a distinguished scientist whose career spanned continents and disciplines. After earning his PhD at Cornell University, he held prominent positions at the University of Toronto, CIRES in Boulder, and the Georgia Institute of Technology, before spending 23 impactful years at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, where he led the Earth Sciences Division. Franco was a passionate advocate for diversity in science. Following his retirement in 2010, he dedicated himself to mentoring minority students, inspiring them to pursue careers in Earth Sciences. His efforts were recognized with the American Meteorological Society’s Thomas E. Anderson Award in 2014, honoring his lifelong commitment to inclusivity and education. Franco's legacy is one of scientific achievement and a deep commitment to empowering future generations.
