Giorgio Bellettini
Professor Emeritus
Dept. of Physics, University of Pisa
The Italian culture at Fermilab, the ISSNAF founding, and memories of Fermilab’s founder, Robert Wilson.
Prof. Giorgio Bellettini talks about his dedication to international collaboration, training students, and bringing Italian culture to the USA. As a founder and Honorary Board Member of ISSNAF, he credits the "Italian factor"—friendliness and open-mindedness of Italian physicists—for his successful work at Fermilab. Bellettini considers his students like his own kids, working hard to fund them and even renting apartments in Chicago to host Italian students for summer internships at Fermilab. Prof. Bellettini also discusses founding the “Cultural Association of Italians at Fermilab” to share Italian culture. The interview covers ISSNAF and includes a fun twist: Giorgio reminisces about Fermilab’s founder, Robert Wilson, who created open pastures with lakes, rivers, and barns around the labs, where researchers could ride horses and enjoy nature between experiments in the underground accelerator.
Prof. Bellettini is an ISSNAF Founder.
