Mentoring Program for Early Career Members

2021 & 2023

What were your expectations for the Mentoring Program?
I already had clear career goals when I entered the mentorship program, and my mentors helped me enrich my vision and strengthen my application materials.
Talking to Italian faculty members that have established careers in the US can give early-career researchers the confidence that they can also make it in such a competitive scene as the one offered by the academic job market in the US.

How did this experience impact you?
I had the pleasure to participate in the Young ISSNAF Mentoring Program as a mentee twice: once in 2020 and once in 2022. For my first year, I was mentored by Prof. Leila De Floriani, from the University of Maryland, and for my second year, by Prof. Daniele Panozzo, from NYU. Both these experiences have been really helpful and valuable to me.
When I was ready to apply for faculty positions, Daniele gave me invaluable feedback and shared important resources with me that helped me improve my chances.

Why would you recommend the ISSNAF Mentoring Program?
I will be forever grateful to the Young ISSNAF Mentoring Program for helping me in establishing important connections (that I hope I will maintain in the future), which eventually supported me in obtaining a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the US
