Italian Research Meeting in Houston 2026 Call for Abstracts

The Italian Research Meeting in Houston is an annual event dedicated to promoting Italian scientific excellence and fostering connections among researchers across the Houston area.

A central goal of the initiative is to strengthen the local network of Italian researchers and facilitate collaborations across Houston-area universities and research institutions, creating new opportunities for scientific exchange and interdisciplinary partnerships.

In this context, we are grateful to the Smalley-Curl Institute at Rice University for its interest in the initiative and its support for strengthening connections within the local research community.

The event is co-organized by ISSNAF WSC Chapter, Com.It.Es. (Comitato degli Italiani

all’Estero) of Houston, and the Houston Chapter of IWUSA (Italian Women in USA)

Network.

As part of this initiative, we invite Italian graduate students and postdoctoral

researchers within seven years of obtaining their PhD who work in Texas, Louisiana,

Arkansas, or Oklahoma to submit an abstract showcasing their research. Graduate students and postdoctoral researchers of any nationality are also welcome to submit an abstract, provided their work is conducted under the supervision of an Italian

principal investigator.

All abstracts will be considered for poster presentations. In addition, the five most competitive abstracts will be selected for a 10-minute oral presentation during a dedicated scientific session. At the time of submission, applicants will be asked to clearly indicate whether they wish to be considered for an oral presentation or prefer to present their work as a poster only.

Submission Guidelines

• We welcome abstracts from all scientific fields, including, but not limited to: Earth

  and Environmental Sciences, Space and Aerospace Research, Medicine and Biotechnology, Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, Engineering and Technology, Physics, Chemistry and Materials Science, and Neuroscience.

• Abstract format:

  • - 300 words max; margin 1 inch, single-spaced

    - Title (Arial 14)

    - Authors and affiliations (Arial 12). Mark the name of the presenter in bold.

    - Body of the abstract (Arial 11). Please structure your abstract using the following four sections: Background, Materials and Methods, Results, and Conclusions. No figures allowed.

  • Oral Presentation: Y/N (Please clearly indicate if you wish to be considered

    for an oral presentation)

• Submissions must be in English.

• Please submit your abstract in Word format to the following email address: wsc_chapter@issnaf.org . VERY IMPORTANT: As an email subject, please use “ABSTRACT_Italian Research Meeting_FirstName_LastName”. Title your word file as: “FirstName_LastName.docx”. In the email body, please also indicate your institute.

  
  

The deadline for abstract submission is Thursday 10/08/2026 (October 8th, 2026).

Oral presenters will be notified by Monday 10/12/2026 (October 12th, 2026).

The 3 best posters and the best oral presentation will be awarded.
