YOUNG INVESTIGATOR AWARD: Franco Strazzabosco - Focused on engineering research in sustainable energy

Established in 2013 by the Strazzabosco family in memory of Dott. Ing. Franco Strazzabosco, this award honors Italian engineers who exemplify entrepreneurial courage by applying scientific discoveries for public benefit.

INTERVIEW WITH MARIO STRAZZABOSCO

FORGING A CONNECTION WITH ISSNAF

In this interview recorded during the 2023 ISSNAF Annual Event, Prof. Mario Strazzabosco reflects on his long-standing connection with ISSNAF. This relationship began nearly two decades ago and has been marked by deep admiration for the Foundation's dedication to promoting the work of Italian scientists in the US. Strazzabosco praised ISSNAF for its commitment to supporting a wide array of disciplines—from humanities and engineering to biophysics—creating a diverse platform for scientific dialogue and collaboration.

THE FRANCO STRAZZABOSCO AWARD: HONORING A LEGACY THROUGH SUPPORT TO SUSTAINABLE ENERGY

Dr. Strazzabosco also shares a deeply personal story about the inspiration behind the Franco Strazzabosco Award and his family’s connection to ISSNAF. After the passing of his father, an entrepreneur with a doctorate with unfulfilled academic aspirations, the family sought a meaningful way to honor his memory. They established the award to support young engineers specializing in renewable and clean energy, reflecting his father’s contributions to the sustainable energy sector.

Strazzabosco highlighted his father’s pioneering work in methane distribution, which provided households with essential energy. He noted that this early involvement in clean energy, funded by private capital, was innovative for its time compared to today's public funding models. The Franco Strazzabosco Award aims to honor his father's vision and foster future advancements in sustainable energy.

EXPANDING HORIZON AND STRENGHTENING PARTNESHIP

Dr. Strazzabosco exemplifies how engaging with a diverse range of scientists can profoundly impact both personal and professional development. His experiences as a physician and biomedical researcher illustrate that such interactions are not only intellectually stimulating but also deeply enriching, offering broader perspectives and deeper insights into various scientific fields.

He emphasized ISSNAF’s ongoing efforts to create valuable opportunities for experience and networking. The Foundation’s strengthened partnerships with key institutions, including the Embassy of Italy and major universities in Italy, foster new opportunities for ISSNAF members and Italian researchers in North America.
