Welcome to the ISSNAF Chapter of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware (PND)!
Founded in 2024, our chapter is a vibrant community of more than 200 Italian scientists, scholars, and artists residing in the tri-state area.
Committed to fostering collaboration and exchange across disciplines, we embrace a wide spectrum of interests spanning the realms of science and the arts. At the heart of our chapter is a dedication to advancing knowledge and innovation.
With members from diverse backgrounds and expertise in a multitude of fields, including but not limited to physics, biology, engineering, literature, and visual arts, we celebrate the rich panorama of Italian talent contributing to the intellectual landscape of North America. Whether exploring the mysteries of the cosmos, delving into the complexities of the human condition, or pushing the boundaries of technological advancement, our community pursuits excellence and discovery.

Executive Committee

Chair
Elena Irollo
Elena is Associate Director of Scientific Programs at the AACR, where she supports the development of high‑impact scientific content and strategic programming for the AACR Annual Meeting. Previously, she was a Research Assistant Professor and Co‑Director of the TRACES Core Facility at Drexel University, advancing work at the interface of molecular biology and translational science. She holds a PharmD from the University Federico II of Naples and a PhD from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, and completed postdoctoral training in the United States. Her interdisciplinary background—spanning cancer biology, neuroscience, and pharmacology—reflects a commitment to translating fundamental discoveries into clinical impact.

Secretary
EMANUELE CHISARI
Emanuele is a physician-scientist currently working at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) as Clinical Development Director for Respiratory, Immunology & Inflammation. Bridging translational research with global strategy, his work focuses on advancing complex therapeutic pipelines. His foundational training and primary academic research reside in immunology, medical microbiology, with specific, high-impact expertise in the human microbiome's systemic influence on osteoarthritis (OA) and the pathogenesis of periprosthetic joint infections (PJI).

Treasurer
RICCARDO GOTTARDI
Assistant Professor in Pediatrics & Bioengineering at the University of Pennsylvania and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. He graduated from the University of Genova and then pursued postgraduate studies at the University of Pittsburgh. He leads the Bioengineering and Biomaterials (Bio2) lab, collaborating on clinical and research efforts to offer engineering solutions for pediatric health, primarily treatments for airway disorders.

Laura Scolaro
Laura earned her PhD in 2010 from the University of Palermo, Italy, in collaboration with Temple University in Philadelphia. She conducted translational and preclinical cancer research at Temple University, Thomas Jefferson University, the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and the University of Pennsylvania, focusing on drug development, targeted therapies, and treatment resistance across multiple cancers.
In 2022, she joined the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) as Assistant Director in the Executive Office of Scientific Programs and Scientific Initiatives, where she supports the development of high-impact research initiatives in cancer prevention and hematologic malignancies.

Young ISSNAF Liaison
ALESSANDRA AUDIA
Alessandra is Head of Sales for North America and Canada at Immudex, where she leads a four-person team and drives go-to-market strategy for immune-monitoring reagents across academic, biotech, and pharma partners. She previously held commercial leadership roles at Champions Oncology, securing multimillion-dollar partnerships in biomarker development and clinical trials. She completed postdoctoral training at MD Anderson Cancer Center, earned her PhD in Stem Cell Biology from University College London after studying biotechnology at the University of Padua, and later an Executive MBA from the Quantic School of Business and Technology. Her career spans oncology research and life science commercial leadership, focused on advancing innovation in immunology and drug development.
